Red binding with gold lettering. Previous owners name (Violet L. Dick) neatly inscribed is on first endpaper. Slight sunning at top and bottom of binding, otherwise, a very good copy. The book contains 21 chapters, each chapter about a famous woman of history including: Joan of Arc.--Florence Nightingale.-- Mary Slessor.-- Laura Secord.-- Catharine Parr Traill.-- Queen Victoria.-- Madeleine de Verchères.-- Helen Keller.-- Ada May Courtice.-- Caroline Macdonald.-- Elizabeth Louise Mair.-- Anna J. "1934 - Ewan spends several months in a mental institution in Guelph after a breakdown. Maud's first grandchild is born to Chester and his wife. A second "Anne of Green Gables" film is released, with no profit to Montgomery. She experiences financial troubles and her health is deteriorating. Vi, 203 pp., octavo, red cloth with gilt titles, red top-dye to text block, as called for, dustjacket. Text is VG: very tight, bright, not faded at all, no sign of wear to cloth. Gift inscription and tape shadow on ffep, smalls scuff on fep, otherwise no real flaws. Dj is present but Fair only with serious edge-wear, tears and inside tape shadows. Slight loss at tips, plus 1.5 inch chunk missing from base of spine. Front panel shows only slight loss. A rare book, particularly in dj. Scans available.

Toronto, Ontario: Toronto, ON: McClelland & Stewart ( M&S ), 1934, 1st Edition, First Printing, 1934. ------------( 1st printing of the First Edition ) ---hardcover, red cloth, a Near Fine example, red cloth is very clean and tidy, book is completely square, pale red tinting to the upper edge of the textblock is lightly rubbed but still quite bright and tidy, no writing in the book, ---this copy measures about 197 mm x 133 mm x 30 mm which differs from the reprint printed circa 1940 ( about 209 x 139 x 37 ) ---as well this has the ruled line on the copyright page------------in a lovely Good/Very Good text design dustjacket with some shallow chipping and a few closed tears, a wee bit of age toning to the spine of the jacket (and I do mean wee), ---a sticker has been placed over the price on the front flap but careful examination with a bright light reveals a 1.50 price tag, ---rare in any dustjacket, this is the less common jacket with text only of the more often seen pictorial dustjacket… Read More
